The coaches, sports information directors, and selected media of the Southwestern Athletic Conference provided no surprises in preseason voting the 2010 Defensive and Offensive Preseason Players of the Year.
Last year’s post-season winners, defensive end Christian Anthony from Grambling, and quarterback K.J. Black of Prairie View were named heading into Tuesday’s SWAC Kickoff Luncheon and Media [...]
The Grambling family gathered Saturday at the Monroe Civic Center to induct the Grambling Legends Sports Hall of Fame’s second class, and to again celebrate the lives of the four biggest legends that made the school’s proud athletics history possible — Eddie Robinson, Ralph W.E. Jones, Fred Hobdy and Collie J. Nicholson.
“It tells you what [...]
JERRY BARR: Part of a 1958-59 basketball squad that won 28 games in a row before falling to Lenoir Rhyne in the NAIA finals at Kansas City, Barr netted 1,656 career points. He earned All-Midwest Conference honors during Grambling’s final season before joining the Southwestern Athletic Conference, then was NAIA All-America in 1958. Inducted into [...]
Turns out, Grambling’s defense hasn’t been spared from this turbulent offseason, either.
The unit was led by defensive backs coach Sam Washington during its initial spring drills on Monday, as fourth-year coordinator Clifford Yoshida continues on family leave.
Grambling convenes for spring practice sessions on Monday afternoon with much of its defense intact.
“I’m ready to see what we’ve got,” said reigning Southwestern Athletic Conference defensive player of the year Christian Anthony. “I can hardly wait to get back on the field.”

“What you have is a meeting of the minds to take care of our institutions,” he said.
Grambling’s Fred Hobdy won more college basketball games than any coach in Louisiana history, and was an integral part in the school’s only two undefeated seasons in football.
By Friday, the long-overdue honor of naming GSU’s new multi-purpose basketball facility after Hobdy will be complete. Grambling this week is officially petitioning its oversight committee, the University [...]
A zippy guard — listed as a junior in your program — sinks the shot that sends Grambling to overtime against Jackson State. When it’s over, he’s posted a career-high 29 points, and added four rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Great news for the men’s team. Terrible news for the football team.
That guard is [...]
They marched, row after row after row of former Grambling football players, to honor Eddie Robinson.
The procession, which curled down Main Street to the front of the new Eddie G. Robinson Museum in Grambling, was met on a frigid Saturday morning by hundreds more — family, friends, former co-workers and those who simply admired from afar [...]
