Nevada hires Grambling offensive coordinator James Spady
FBS Western Athletic Conference foe Nevada must have seen something it liked when Grambling opened two seasons ago in Reno. Coach Chris Ault has hired GSU offensive coordinator James Spady to oversee tight ends.
“James brings a wealth of experience to Nevada,” Ault said in a release. “We had the opportunity to observe him first hand in 2008 when Grambling State played here. His three years as an offensive coordinator will be a benefit to our program.”
GET IN THE GAME: On Spady, Grambling’s offense, and a rocky relationship with Rod
Spady, a standout at former-WAC affiliate Texas-El Paso from 1984-88, served as OC at Grambling from 2007-09, helping the program to two divisional titles and the Southwestern Athletic Conference championship in 2008. He had been part of at least two other coaching searches this offseason.
Spady will also assist new Nevada offensive assistant Cameron Norcross with the line, the position he oversaw at Grambling. A longtime assistant, Spady spent 11 seasons on the UTEP staff — where he coached tight end Brian Natkin, a consensus All-American in 2000 who later played in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans.
He also worked for two seasons at South Carolina State and one season at North Carolina Central, serving under head coach Rod Broadway — who then brought Spady to Grambling.

I can’t believe it, but I’m happy. I didn’t like his play calling anyway. I hope the “Wildcat” went with him and the quarterback coach also. I would like to see someone come and develop our players for the next level. The NFL is about quarterback play, the Super Bowl is a prime example.
