Grambling recruiting: Group of prospects set for official visit

Grambling welcomes a group of recruiting prospects this weekend that includes Durham, N.C., defensive tackle Eric Young and Birmingham, Ala., quarterback Frank Rivers, among others.

They are part of a group that eventually swelled to at least 23 who have expressed interest in Grambling, though five have since committed elsewhere. Rivers threw for 2,411 yards and 15 touchdowns for Fairfield High in 2009.

Among the other prospects who have received offers from GSU: Houston, Texas, defensive back Fred Jackson; Jacksonville, Fla., offensive lineman Brandon Rogers; Atlanta, Ga., offensive lineman Tim Wynn; and Shreveport, La., quarterback Lifford Jackson.

Orlando, Fla., linebacker Lucktes Estiverne (5-11, 210; Oak Ridge High) has also been offered by Grambling. He was a four-year starter with 140 tackles as a junior and 162 tackles — including 35 for a loss — as a senior.

Tampa (Fla.) Catholic Quarterback/wide receiver D.J. Williams, son of former Grambling player and coach Doug Williams, had expressed some interest in following in his dad’s footsteps at GSU — and had received an offer from SWAC foe Alabama State — but instead has chosen instead to attend prep school. He saw most of his playing time at Tampa Catholic at wide receiver, and still needs time to polish up his skills under center.
