Grambling recruiting: Four commit elsewhere; list still includes five from Louisiana

by: Nick Deriso January 12, 2010 , 10:01 am (CT)

Four of the initial 17 recruits to mention interest in Grambling have made their choices elsewhere: Alief, Texas offensive lineman James Polk; Port Sulphur, Louisiana linebacker Seth Ancar; El Cajon, California defensive end Ja’Rodd Watson; and Chatham, Virginia defensive tackle Robert Kearney.

That leaves five Louisiana products still considering Grambling: defensive tackle Simeon Stevenson, running back Bryant Dunn, offensive lineman Clayton Sylve, athlete Lifford Jackson and wide receiver Michael Tate. Two from California also mention GSU as a possible commitment, and both are offensive linemen — Mareno Valley’s Malcolm Gordon and El Cajon’s Charles Wiley.

The highest-rated remaining recruit who has expressed interest in Grambling is three-star offensive line prospect Brandon Rogers of Jacksonville, Florida. Defensive tackle Eric Young, of Durham, North Carolina, and Tallahassee, Florida defensive tackle Fred Griggs have earned two stars, as has Sylve.

Running back Mario Turner of Atlanta, Georgia, athlete Lavadius Lyles of Forest, Mississippi, and quarterback Daryl White of Dallas, Texas, are also considering GSU.

A familiar face: Veteran assistant coach Bob Leahy found a familiar face after accepting a position overseeing wide receivers at Grambling: Defensive coordinator Clifford Yoshida. They spent time together on the staff at East Carolina.

I’m guessing Bob Leahy will be the next offensive coordinator.

Can’t believe the QB from Dallas is being recruited as a QB. He is a good athlete but not a QB.

I have a question, is Grambling maximizing its recruiting power in the Dallas Metro Area?

That Lavadius Lyles kid has excellent speed… would be a nice skill position pickup!

We seem to have gotten some good athletes out of the Birmingham area. Have we stop recruiting there?
