Valley sets interview schedule for coaching candidates; Grambling's Washington set for Jan. 7

Mississippi Valley State University will conduct five interview sessions for the position of head football coach between Jan. 6-8.

The four finalists are former NFL receiver and Savannah (Ga.) High School coach Charlie Brown; University of North Alabama defensive coordinator Karl Morgan; Grambling State assistant coach Sam Washington, Arkansas Baptist College head football coach Richard Wilson and Stillman College head coach L.C. Cole.

Each candidate will begin their session with the search committee and will move on to meet selected university personnel. The session will end with a open forum meet-and-greet to be held at the Business Education Building on the MVSU campus. The public, alumni, university faculty and staff along with students are invited to the open forum.

Here is the updated interview schedule for the three days of interviews:

JANUARY 6, 2010
Charlie Brown

9 a.m. – Meeting with Search Committee
10 a.m.-12:50 p.m. – Meetings with University Personnel & Campus Tour
1-1:45 Open Forum (Business Education Building)

Karl Morgan
3 p.m. – Meeting with Search Committee
4-6:50 – Meetings with University Personnel & Campus Tour
7-7:45 Open Forum (Business Education Building)

JANUARY 7, 2010
Samuel Washington

9 a.m. – Meeting with Search Committee
10 a.m.-12:50 p.m. – Meetings with University Personnel & Campus Tour

Richard Wilson
3 p.m. – Meeting with Search Committee

Washington is a former MVSU standout who has moved on to become one of the sought-after assistant coaches in mid-major football. After playing for the Pittsburg Steelers from 1982-86, he has been assistant coach at Bethune-Cookman College, Johnson C. Smith University, North Carolina Central University, North Carolina A&T University; defensive coordinator at Mississippi Valley State; and defensive pass game coordinator at Grambling State University.
