Among the sideline visitors: Former Grambling assistant Doug Porter, a college football HOFer; new baseball coach James Cooper.
Coach Wilbert Ellis arrives; Broadway tells the team; ‘Now practice can start!’
Coach Gibbs is drilling the RBs on screens, quick curls: ‘Catching the ball is all about looking it in.’
Sophomore receiver Rodale Pippen could work his way into the starting rotation, with the way he’s begun this camp.
LB Derrick Johnson, wearing #10 today, is moving laterally with good fluidity. He seems to have completely recovered from the knee injury.
Fabian Carter is looking like a solid option at punter for Grambling. Getting good depth on ball, and nice hang time.

Lee Fobbs, the former All-SWAC fullback for Rob, has stopped by practice.
Fobbs spoke to the team: ‘I’m still proud to be a Tiger.’
It’s so hot, the backups are congregating in any available shade – even in a semi-circle under the field lights.
Dillon had trouble connecting on first set of scales; Reyes running second-team offense.
Higgins came in and threw a pick; he’s on push-up drill now.
Dillon, back in with first-team on scales, has warmed to the task. Consecutive completions, both to check-down targets – a focus this fall.
Scrimmage has begun. John Carter is in on weakside. Van Phillips makes nice catch but drive goes nowhere.
Reyes again running second team. Nice series of completions. Good, quick release.
Reyes, known as a duel-threat QB in high school, makes something happen with his feet. But the drive again falls short.
Back to the 1s. Dillon stands tough in pocket, connecting in heavy traffic with Donnell. He then jukes Carter off his feet.
That makes the next delayed hand off work perfectly. He’s a fun player to watch. And more dangerous than ever as he matures.
Higgins underthrows a screen. Reyes returns with 2s.
Tyree Bullock then picks Reyes off – returning it for the first score of the day.
