Third-year coach Rod Broadway is putting an emphasis on keeping a sharp edge this fall.
It would be easy for a team that’s accomplished so much — 11 wins, multiple personal honors, SWAC and national titles — to relax a bit.
“You have to be willing to do what it takes,” Broadway told the team this morning, following is first drills in shells. “They’re not giving it away. Greatness is earned. You have to be willing to pay the price.”
FIELD OF SCREAMS
Following up on our report, earlier this week, on the sorry conditions of the practice fields at Grambling: I am happy to report that the sidelines of the main area, and secondary field were mowed by Wednesday. Less happy to report this, though: The football staff did it themselves.
HEAT OF THE NIGHT
Christian Anthony, the SWAC’s preseason defensive player of the year, was one of those who didn’t wear his shoulder pads in the team’s first session in shells this week. He took part in practice, helping out with coaching and doing some running, but didn’t participate in live action.
Broadway said Anthony was one of five who had struggled with the high humidity over the first days of fall sessions.
